Two women brought 56 suspected counterfeit 100-dollar bills to deposit, police arrived to arrest them

Today (21st) at 1:50 pm, a bank employee at 50 Mong Kok Road reported that a customer intended to deposit 56 100-dollar bills into a designated account, but suspected they were counterfeit bills.

Police officers arrived at the scene to investigate and arrested a mainland woman surnamed Zhai (48 years old) and a mainland woman surnamed Lu (19 years old) with two-way permits on suspicion of "using counterfeit banknotes"; the 19-year-old woman arrested was also suspected of "failing to produce identity documents". The case was handed over to the 5th Team of the Criminal Investigation Team of the Mong Kok Police District for follow-up.

Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited responded to the inquiry of "Hong Kong 01" and stated that the incident had been handed over to the police for handling and the bank would fully cooperate with the investigation. BOC also stated that it provides professional training on identifying counterfeit banknotes to frontline personnel from time to time. If customers have doubts about the banknotes they hold, they can inquire with the bank or directly hand them over to the police for handling.
