In April this year, three mainland men and women went to a bank in Mong Kok with 1,999 "HK$500 million bonds" to open an account. In the end, three people were arrested. Today (14th), a similar case occurred again. A local couple in their sixties went to HSBC Bank in Central with the same sky-high "bonds" to open an account, which alarmed the staff to call the police.

The incident happened at 12:35 noon today. The police received a report from a staff of HSBC Bank at 29 Queen's Road Central, Central, stating that a man and a woman were suspected of showing counterfeit banknotes at the above address and asked to open a bank account. After receiving the report, the staff arrived at the scene and seized about 10 false documents printed with the words "HK$500 million bonds" on the 66-year-old man surnamed Cai and the 62-year-old woman surnamed Chen.

It is understood that the two are a couple, both retired people, holding Hong Kong identity cards. After preliminary investigation, they were arrested on suspicion of "using false documents" and detained for investigation. The case was handed over to the Sixth Team of the Central Police District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up. As of July 21, the police said that the two arrested persons have been granted bail pending investigation and must report to the police in mid-August.

At 11:15 am on April 22 this year, it was reported that two men and one woman went to a bank branch at 617-623 Nathan Road to open an account, but during the period, they showed a stack of uncommon banknotes with a face value of up to 500 million yuan each. The staff suspected that someone was using counterfeit banknotes and called the police for help.

After the police arrived to investigate, they found 1,999 suspected counterfeit banknotes with a face value of HK$500 million on a 72-year-old mainland man involved in the case. It was later confirmed that they were false documents printed with the words "HK$500 million bonds". He and two other mainland men and women named Lu (75 years old) and Li (65 years old) were arrested for "using false documents" and are currently being detained for investigation. The case was handed over to the second team of the criminal investigation team of the Mong Kok Police District for follow-up.
