Burglary at two exchange shops in Western District, North Point, debt-ridden lift repairman arrested

Two currency exchange shops on Marble Road in North Point and Des Voeux Road West in Sai Wan were burglarized on August 17 and 19 respectively by thieves who used portable cutters and hammers to break open the doors and break into the shops, resulting in the loss of approximately HK$52,000 worth of foreign currency. The police officers successfully identified the target involved in the case after reviewing the video recordings of the currency exchange shop and the nearby merchant "Sky Eye".


Yesterday (21st), a local man named Cao (54 years old) was arrested in Sai Wan on suspicion of "burglary". His mobile phone, the clothes he was wearing when committing the crime and other evidence were seized. The suspect reported himself as a lift maintenance worker and admitted that he committed the crime due to debt. He is currently being detained for investigation. After investigation, it was learned that the suspect had gone to the scene to inspect the situation before taking action.
